Cartridge for treatment of household Grey water
By CSIR - CENTRAL SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS ORGANISATION
Among various categories of waste water, detergent water accounts for major part of daily domestic water consumption in countries like India. It is usually discharged on land, in the sewer or in surface water. When detergent water consisting of surfactants along with other constituents is discharged in soil, the surfactants get adsorbed onto soils and can create water-repellent soils, thereby affecting soil flow patterns and productivity. When surfactants are discharged in rivers, they can cause foaming and short term as well as long-term changes in ecosystem. Therefore, the reuse of treated grey/detergent wastewater is a promising alternative water source, which could be exploited on a continuous basis for non potable uses including gardening, irrigation and toilet flushing.
