Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification process that uses a semipermeable membrane and pressure to separate pure water from a less pure solution. The membrane has tiny pores that allow pure water to pass through while blocking out larger molecules and impurities, such as salts, chlorine, and dirt. The process forces the solvent to pass through the membrane in the opposite direction of natural osmosis
The principle of RO is that when pressure is applied on one side of the membrane, the solvent molecules will move from the side with high pressure to the side with low pressure. As the pressure increases, more and more of the solvent molecules will be forced to move through the membrane.
