Presently a 19.4 MW power generation facility, OPG Energy was commissioned in Feb 2004 as a 18 MW gas based generation unit near Mayavaram in Tamil Nadu. Gas is supplied from the adjacent Cauvery Basin fields, within a 40 KM radius, under a long term supply agreement with Gas Authority of India Ltd. A waste heat recovery unit generating 1.4 MW of power was commissioned in 2007 and is an integral part of this unit which is now a 19.4 MW facility.
The plant has been supplying the uninterrupted power needs of about ten customers who include a major automotive foundry, a five star hotel, steel, textile and paperboard manufacturers. The plant has been profitable since inception and has been operating at a plant load factor of 90 to 95 % of capacity.
OPG Energy won an award in 2007 for the Best Maintained Power Plant, an affirmation of the high standards of efficiency and safety that the group adopts.
