Insurance broking was established in India in October 2002, with the first licenses issued in January 2003. Worldwide Insurance Brokers Ltd., led by Shri Kishan Agrawal, became the first to receive a Direct broker License from IRDA within three years. Following its success in the domestic market, Worldwide obtained a Composite License, allowing it to conduct insurance business globally. Only 50 Composite Licenses have been awarded in India, making Worldwide the sole company with such a license, catering to Corporates, SMEs, and Retail segments.
